Top 10 tinted moisturisers with SPF for guaranteed glow and protection
It might be mid-winter but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t protect our skin from the sun and damaging UV rays. Luckily there are several great tinted moisturisers out there containing SPF to not just protect our skin but to also give us a nice even skin tone, reduce redness, nourish the skin and add a dewy glow. However, if you are still on the fence about wearing SPF all year round, read on.
So, firstly, what are the common misconception around not having to wear SPF during the winter months, and secondly, what should we look for in a tinted SPF moisturiser? We reached out to the ‘We Are Feel Good’ team to learn more and here’s what they had to say;
Often people think that clouds protect from UV rays but in reality, clouds block minimal UVA rays (the ones that cause skin ageing and some cancers) and up to 70% of UVB rays also can penetrate clouds. With UVA damage, you may not feel your skin burning as these rays go deeper into your skin, damaging collagen and deeper cells. Altitude and reflective surfaces ( think skiing!) also amplify the UV damage. Sunscreen should be used every day of the year to prevent the cumulative effects of UV damage to your skin.
Sun damage is cumulative and irreversible. Any time the UV index is above 3, sun protection should be used. In winter in most parts of Australia, the UV index hits 3 or above more often than we think it might.
Just like your daily serums, sunscreen earn a place in your all year round skincare regime! It should be worn whenever the UV rating is over 3, and guess what… the UV rating is over 3 in most parts of Australia all year round! The daily use of SPF 50+ sunscreen is the best way to prevent premature ageing of the skin and skin cancer.
Tinted SPF is generally just sunscreen with varying amounts of iron compounds to give a tint. Treat them just like any other sunscreen. Try to get an SPF 50+ and reapply as directed.
In the end, however, the best sunscreen is the one you will wear every day!
