How Digital Nomadism Will Change Luxury Travel

Today, many jobs can be done without people having to go to a particular physical office. With an internet connection, tasks can be shared and completed conveniently without physical contact. Indeed, organizations can hire talent and engage it for many years without ever physically meeting the actual person.

The implication is that the physical location of the person doing the job does not matter. Indeed, one can so easily become a full-time digital nomad. That is changing many aspects of our lives, including luxury travel. Before the internet, one had to accumulate the funds they needed for travel beforehand. That meant either getting a large inheritance or working first.

The door is open for more people

If you had to work to raise funds for your travel, you often had to postpone your travel to when you were a little older. Even those who made investments and set up the channels for passive income had to spend some time at the office beforehand.

That left a very small minority of people who could do luxury travelling full-time, especially in their younger years and throughout their existence. These individuals were lucky to be born into families with significant generational wealth.

With digital nomadisms, the door to luxury travelling is open to more people, including the young, who have not inherited a fortune. All one needs to do is build the capacity to offer others unique value.

Even this initial stage can be done while on the go. Many skills that can earn you enough money to travel the world can also be learned remotely. Platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, and Coursera and building libraries of courses that can help you become efficient at making money while on the go.

The unique needs of nomads

The other way digital nomadism will change luxury travel is by encouraging the setting up of new accommodations with a component of encouraging networking and building communities domiciled, mostly on the internet.

Since a traveller does not have a permanent hometown or physical place of work which enables them to build a social life, services like co-living spaces will become more important to travellers as that is where they can network and build some semblance of social life.

Indeed, even the concept of co-living spaces is changing. Initially, it was seen as a business model targeted at low-budget travellers. However, digital nomads are not necessarily low-budget travellers; they have other unique needs that can best be taken care of in a co-living space.

For example, they must network and socialize with other digital nomads in physical environments. That means we will likely see the emergence of luxury co-living spaces designed for those who do not mind paying a little more for a better experience.
