Suitcase Series: Emilie Roberson, co-founder of French Beauty Co.

This week we caught up with Emilie Roberson the woman behind the beauty brand – French Beauty Co., to find out what she never travels without, her packing tips, and what her most memorable trip has been so far…

Emilie Roberson is a French Beauty Entrepreneur, and the Marketing Director and Co-Founder of French Beauty Co a company that specialises in bringing cult French beauty brands to our shores. With over 15 years of experience in the beauty industry, Emilie is on a mission to bring the best of French beauty to Australia. As a French native, she has always had a passion for French pharmacies and skincare trends. In fact, she lives the beauty mantra “less is more” and is passionate about investing in the very best products to beautify the skin, not hide it.

Emilie started her career at Bioderma in Lyon, France before moving to Australia to set up their marketing operations in Melbourne. She then went on to become the Senior Brand Manager at Cosmetiques de France, a distributor of French skincare brands. Today, she is the co-founder of French Beauty Co, Australia’s first digital destination for lovers of French Pharmacy brands including Bioderma, Uriage, Nuxe, and Embryolisse.

In this week’s Suitcase Series, equipped with Embryolisse Lait-Creme Conentré ($41.00) we take a sneak peek into Emilie’s travel psyche…

What’s been your most memorable trip, and why?

Our honeymoon in the Maldives. Only a short 7 days but being fully isolated and loved up in our villa above the water was very special. I’m normally one to never stop on holidays, planning 20 activities a day (to the despair of my husband or friends) but this holiday was totally different. All we did was resting, reading, listening to music and swimming in our private lagoon, taking time to be present and enjoying each other’s company. Never felt so rested physically and mentally after a holiday.

The Majestic Hotel in Cannes is one of Emilie’s favourite hotels

What’s your favourite ever hotel?

The Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas was pretty special as we had a huge suite and were able to just watch the world go by in the evenings, see the sun go down and the lights and electric atmosphere take off again at night. The Majestic Hotel in Cannes also never disappoints, super luxurious and their famous scrambled eggs are just to die for!

Where or what is your escape?

In Melbourne where I live, it would go to the beach in Mount Martha (only about 1h drive from the city). The flat, turquoise and transparent water reminds me a lot of Europe and Corsica where I used to spend all my summer holidays.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow, it would be…

With no surprise, I will have to say, Lyon, France for many reasons. First and foremost, to be able to hug my family but also for the food as Lyon is the food capital of France with many Michelin restaurants and “Bouchons”, traditional tiny restaurants with hearty cuisine. I would go straight to Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, an indoor food market that sells France’s finest produce where you can taste fresh oysters with local French wine in a casual, friendly atmosphere.

What’s your idea of a luxury wellness holiday?

I have been lucky to travel to some wonderful hotels in Bali, Thailand and Vietnam where I enjoyed milk baths, full body wraps and massages so experiencing real indulgence for the body but not so much for the mind….so I would love to go on a wellness retreat where more meditation and mindfulness are first priority to be able to fully disconnect and re-centre myself on what’s really key in life.

My top bucket-list destination is…

Greece! I dream of visiting the famous Cyclades islands, Santorini, Milos, Paros, etc.
Like a typical French person, in my early years of travelling I was more excited to discover the world outside Europe, mainly Asia and America which I found more exotic and surprisingly I have only visited a few European countries so far as I feel this can be done when I get older with my husband and children.

If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a long-haul flight, who would it be?

A little cliché but I would say, Coco Chanel. She is for me one of the most influential French fashion icons of all time. She revolutionised the way women wore clothes and truly developed the concept of a “modern woman”. At French Beauty co, we use her quote “beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself” in all our communications!

What is your jet lag recovery tip?

Drinking plenty of water is key and having plenty of natural light as soon as you land helps too (go for a walk, get some fresh air, do not stay on the couch!) My motto is to not rest when you land from a trip but keep busy and go on your normal day. The quicker you go back to your time zone, the easier for me is the jet lag recovery.
I’m typically the person that would land in Australia at 6am from a trip to France. Go home, take a shower and get changed then go to the office by 9/10am until 4pm. Early diner and in bed by 8/9pm! Normally within 2-3 days I would be back to normal ☺ But this was pre-kids…once children are involved it is a different story!

Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre, French Beauty Co.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Conentré is a multi-tasking, six-in-one product that works for all skin types. This Tik Tok viral sensation can be used as a moisturiser, mask, cleanser, makeup primer, after-shave balm and after-sun soother. Makeup Artists love its ability to prep tired skin, increase radiance and maximise the foundation’s staying power.
With three key natural active ingredients of Shea Butter, Soy Proteins and Aloe Vera, Embryolisse’s Lait-Creme Concentré deeply nourishes, soothes, and protects all skin types for the perfect skin prep in a single step.

What is your suitcase stalwart?

I’m a hard-case Samsonite type of girl! For long trips, I will go for the biggest size, the 81cm so I can pack as much as possible but still limit to one checked luggage! And for carry-on, I have been using the Longchamps Extra-large “Pliage travel bag” for years, it’s my go-to travel companion. They are the best: strong but extra light and when you arrive at your destination, you can just fold it and throw it at the bottom of your suitcase!

What is your number one packing tip?

Be organised before leaving to save time while travelling. I swear by packing cubes! They help you keep your suitcase neat and tidy, especially if you are moving every couple of days while travelling. For short trips, I would also recommend preparing outfit combinations beforehand and packing them together so you don’t have to think too much about what to wear every day!

I never travel without…

A Uniqlo cashmere poncho that I can wrap around to keep warm without feeling restricted. My noise cancelling headphones and a few skincare essentials: Avene Thermal Water Spray to refresh my skin on the go, Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre to hydrate (the scent also seems to comfort me) and Nuxe Reve de Lip Balm as my lips always tend to become very dry in flights.

In my beauty/toiletry bag, I always bring…

If I go for a short trip, I would favour multi-purpose products. I will always take my Bioderma Sensibio H2O micellar water, the best and most versatile non-rinse cleanser I know! Face and eyes, it also works on waterproof makeup and comes in a travel-friendly size. Winner ☺ Followed by Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum, which always soothes and hydrates my skin in any weather or season. The Swiss Army knife of skincare, Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre follows me everywhere too (it’s a cream cleanser, a moisturiser, a primer and an express mask all at once!!). To finish a skin Tint or a BB Cream with a SPF protection. And last but not least I always take the Klorane dry shampoo with me to space out shampoos if I don’t get the time or just add volume or discipline my hair (hello harsh water in France or humidity in South East Asia).
