Suitcase Series: Sabrina Parr, Founder of KEEKO

This week we caught up with Sabrina Parr the woman behind the KEEKO, to find out what she never travels without, her packing tips, and what her most memorable trip has been so far…

Keeko was founded by Sabrina Parr, an entrepreneur, yoga and dance teacher, and former professional dancer. Sabrina was the lead dancer for one of the world’s most prestigious cabaret shows, Le Lido De Paris, on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, where she was the company’s first Australian principal dancer in its 80-year history. She has also performed in shows in Copenhagen, Austria, South Korea, and China.

Sabrina took a break from her dancing career after ten years of back-to-back shows to focus on

becoming a yoga and dance teacher, as well as refocusing her lifestyle to pay more attention to the foods she ate and the products she used on her body.

She realised that while dancing, she developed an unhealthy obsession with having a “Hollywood white” smile, which led her to try unusual treatments like laser whitening in Las Vegas in 2000 and leave teeth-whitening strips on overnight until her gums peeled. Sabrina went to see an Ayurvedic

doctor who prescribed her a series of treatments to help her crumbling teeth, bad bleeding gums, and chronic gut issues. Oil pulling was one of the first treatments she tried, and it completely transformed her health, inspiring her to launch her own brand.

Her move to Australia prompted her to investigate using natural products to help rebuild her health, but she was unable to find anything that met her requirements after visiting the local health food store. Sabrina spent the next few years developing her own product line, and in 2016, she released her first product, Morning Mint Oil Pulling Sachets, which were quickly snapped up by US retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, Cap Beauty, and Goop. Morning Mint Oil Pulling Sachets quickly became popular in the US market because they were designed for the modern woman – instead of scooping large chunks of solid oil from a jar, Morning Mint Oil Pulling Sachets offered a more concentrated formula for better results.

In this week’s Suitcase Series, equipped with Dream Clean Antioxidant Toothpaste we take a sneak peek into Sabrina’s travel psyche…

What’s been your most memorable trip, and why?

My first trip to Paris when I was 17 as it was my first time outside of Australia and auditioning for a dance company. As a kid from the little surf town of Manly, I was just in awe of the size and beauty of the city. I was struck by what felt like modern life being lived in an ancient city, every building looked like a work of art. I was lucky enough to get the job and live in that incredible city for the better part of 7 years.

What’s your favourite ever hotel?

The Shangri-La on the tiny island of Boracay. It was an absolute paradise.

Where or what is your escape?

Anywhere in nature that I can connect back to mother earth and slow down.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow, it would be…

Amalfi Coast.

Shangri-La in Boracay is Sabrina’s favourite hotel

What’s your idea of a luxury wellness holiday?

Somewhere coastal surrounded by lush vegetation with a small 5-star boutique resort designed with neutral minimalist interiors, serving fresh local produce and tailoring a wellness treatment plan based on your wellness goals that include everything from spa treatments to alternative therapies like Reiki and breath work.

My top bucket-list destination is…

I have had a fascination with ancient history since I was a kid, especially middle eastern. So many incredible jewels of nature and history to explore. I would love to visit Jordan and travel from the desert to the red sea.

If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a long-haul flight, who would it be?

Bob The Drag Queen. She is absolutely hilarious and I imagine would make a really entertaining flight companion.

What is your jet lag recovery tip?

Drink plenty of water with Hydralyte and reground yourself by putting your bare feet in the grass or ocean for at least 15 minutes. It does wonders!
