Suitcase Series: Evelyn Broughton, founder of Peggy Concept Store

This week we caught up with Evelyn Broughton the woman behind Peggy Concept Store, to find out what she never travels without, her packing tips, and what her most memorable trip has been so far…

After a 10+ year career as a luxury buyer for the world’s most prestigious brands including Chanel in London, Gucci and latterly Hermes Evelyn Broughton launched an omnichannel retail store ‘ Peggy Concept Store’ in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Evelyn is known by her global community of creative friends as a taste-maker. Passionate about creativity, culture and fostering community, Evelyn brings together all that she knows and all that she loves to bring you Peggy Concept Store.

The Peggy Concept Store is about bringing people together to inspire and collaborate. Immersing customers and the community in Fashion, Music, Art and Culture. Named after the original curator, Peggy Guggenheim, the Peggy Concept Store has a uniquely European Jet-Set feel with a nod to the relaxed Australian lifestyle that is so ingrained in our DNA.

The physical store in Avalon Beach is more than just a retail space, the store is a hub for creativity, inspiration and connecting the community. Peggy offers a unique curation of brands and workmanship behind each piece with a focus on artisanal slow fashion rather than a harmful fast fashion cycle.

In this week’s Suitcase Serieswe take a sneak peek into Evelyn’s travel psyche…

What’s been your most memorable trip, and why?

The trip my husband and I went on when we got married in Ibiza. First, we celebrated our best friend’s 40th in Mykonos, after that, we almost died flying into Milos. Then we had 90 friends and family in Ibiza celebrating our wedding, followed by our honeymoon in multiple cities and islands in Italy. After that, we flew to NYC and ended the trip seeing our brother-in-law marry in San Diego. It was so fun and full of love.

Mezzatorre hotel, Ischia is Evelyn’s favourite hotel

What’s your favourite ever hotel?

Mezzatorre hotel, Ischia. Nothing beats aperitivo there!

Where or what is your escape?

Ibiza. I love the bohemian side of the white island. It has a magnetic energy that Es Vedra brings and a natural beauty that I never tire of, no matter how many times I have been. It is always calling me. I feel so at home there. Cala Salada is my favourite beach, it is surrounded by red rocks which you lie on, the water is crystal clear and wait staff scale rocks to bring you a cocktail.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow, it would be…

Ibiza always… otherwise I never tie of holidaying in Italy. When I worked for Gucci I would go to Italy 5 times a year for work and would still return on holidays because I just love it so much. There is so much to do in Italy, the food is amazing, the beaches are beautiful, there is so much history in the cities and I love sitting on a beach or in a piazza, having aperitivo and watching the world go by more than anything!

What’s your idea of a luxury wellness holiday?

A yoga retreat either by the sea or high in the mountains where the air is fresh. Digital detox essential!

My top bucket-list destination is…

To see the northern lights.

If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a long-haul flight, who would it be?

Peggy Guggenheim, the stories she would have to tell would entertain us from Sydney to Venice and back !

What is your jet lag recovery tip?

As soon as I get on the plane, I change my watch to the time at my destination and sleep according to that time zone. Once I have landed, I spend the whole day out and about. I like to keep stimulated by wondering art galleries or flea markets, always fuelled by espresso’s. I never go back to my hotel room for a break… if I do I know I will crash! Better to have a break at a café or bar and watch the world go by than sit in your hotel room.

Lux Nomade

What is your suitcase stalwart?

Rimowa.

What is your number one packing tip?

I plan my outfits by day, according to what is on my itinerary so that I am not packing unnecessary items that won’t be worn. Once each outfit is planned, I add in a few extra versatile pieces that go back with a number of looks in case I am not feeling an outfit on the day.

I never travel without…

An Innes Lauren one-piece swimsuit as I can wear it swimming or as a body suit. My Nagnata Motley track pants, a Classic white shirt from Jac+Jack and my Silk Laundry Black Blazer. Versatility is key when travelling and I can easily dress up or down these pieces, and style together or separately.

In my beauty/toiletry bag, I always bring…

A thick moisturiser for the plane and both cleansing & moisturising masks to apply when showering in transit and when I reach my destination. I feel so much more myself when my skin is feeling clean and refreshed.
