1. Crystalbrook Kingsley

Crystalbrook Kingsley, Newcastle opened on 9 June 2021. Centrally located in the Cultural Precinct opposite Civic Park, Crystalbrook Kingsley is a transformation of Newcastle’s iconic ‘Roundhouse’ building, which started life in the 1970s as the  City Administration Centre. Serving a new level of sustainable luxury to Australia’s seventh largest city, and the gateway to the Hunter Valley, Crystalbrook Kingsley features 130 contemporary rooms and suites, with urban, park  and harbour views. In an Australian first, Crystalbrook Kingsley will have 100% waste-free bathrooms, where all  bathroom amenities biodegradable or recyclable. Other sustainable initiatives include the use of upcycled and recycled materials in construction, a  single-use plastic free environment, keyless room access and paperless check in and check out.  All rooms and suites come equipped with technology sweeteners including tablet control centres to  order in room dining or a room tidy-up, STAYCAST by Google for video streaming and access to  hundreds of recent release complimentary movies.

2. Aman New York

With the importance of focusing on personal wellbeing never more apparent, Aman New York will bring to life the fullest expression of the Aman Urban Wellness concept. Extending over three-storeys, the Aman Spa will be the brand’s new flagship Wellness Centre in the western hemisphere – a serene haven for hotel guests, residence owners and Aman Club members.

Encompassing three rooms dedicated to consultation, examination and therapy, the Wellness Centre will be home to seven spa treatment suites and two unique Banya and Hammam Spa Houses – ideal for half and full-day experiences. Each Spa House has its own private outdoor relaxation terrace with hot and cold plunge pools. 

Other spa facilities will include the elegant reception area, boutique and lounge, and a 20-metre indoor swimming pool lined with double daybeds around cosy fire pits. 4. Kagi Maldives Spa Island

The five-star Kagi Maldives Spa Island has officially opened in the North Male Atoll. The boutique 50-villa property provides couples, friends and solo travellers with a 360° wellness experience, just a 15-minute seaplane or 60-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport.

At the heart of the island sits Kagi’s 1500-square-meter spa and wellness hub, complete with an open-air, teardrop-shaped sky roof at its core. Kagi also houses a state-of-the-art gym, two restaurants, three bars, a dive centre and a house reef. Guests ca choose from three room types, a Beach Pool Villa, a Lagoon Pool Villa or an Ocean Pool Villa, all of which are distinguished by their unique locations and house a private pool, a sun deck and an expansive indoor-outdoor bathroom.

5. Capella Hanoi

One of the exciting hotel openings in 2021, is Capella Hanoi which has officially opened its doors, ushering in a new era of art and elegance in the heart of Vietnam’s vibrant capital city. Located just steps away from the iconic Hanoi Opera House, this beautiful boutique hotel has been dreamt up as a “petite auberge” – a rendezvous spot for the greatest opera singers, composers and artists of a glamorous bygone age.Nestled in the French-influenced Old Quarter, close to Hoan Kiem Lake and surrounded by eclectic restaurants, bars, shops and markets, Capella Hanoi was designed by Bill Bensley, the highly acclaimed architect behind Capella Ubud, Bali, the “No.1 Hotel in the World” in 2021.

The 47 themed rooms and suites at Capella Hanoi (ranging from a generous 35 sqm to an expansive 194 sqm) are individually styled with original operatic artefacts and custom portraiture art by prolific artist Kate Spencer and equipped with bespoke services and state-of-the-art amenities. 6. Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street

Hilton has opened the 244-room Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street. The hotel’s location on the corner of Little Queen and Bourke Streets, provides easy access to the city’s recreational and cultural attractions. Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street is owned by international hotel owner and developer, M&L Hospitality and managed by Hilton.

Luci restaurant is located in the building’s former grand banking hall and is accessed via the hotel’s Bourke Street entrance. The restaurant serves contemporary Australian cuisine, and nods to Melbourne’s history of Italian immigrants and its evolution into a cosmopolitan culinary city.Guest rooms feature custom details that celebrate the building’s design heritage as well as Melbourne cityscapes – leather wardrobe handles are inspired by vintage luggage, carpet designs mirror patterns found in the Equity Chambers facade, and prints by Roger Arnall showcase Melbourne architecture. Modern in-room amenities include HDTV with built-in Chromecast, specialty coffee curated by Dukes Coffee Roasters and premium hotel bath products by local maker Hunter Lab. 7. PARKROYAL Monash Melbourne

8. Kingsland Locke, London

Forward-thinking home-meets-hotel brand Locke has launched its fourth London property, Kingsland Locke, in the heart of Dalston. Located in one of London’s most eclectic neighbourhoods, Kingsland Locke is housing 124 contemporary studio apartments, as well as complimentary co-working space, on-site micro-brewery and gin distillery, all-day restaurant, workout studio and coffee shop. The lower ground floor of the hotel boasts a large, naturally-lit atrium space providing a relaxing atmosphere by day, which will transition into a lively bar area come nightfall.

Continuing Locke’s refreshing design approach, the interiors of Kingsland Locke have been conceived by East London-based studio Red Deer, who has taken inspiration from the vibrant colours and scenes of the surrounding Dalston neighbourhood. Rooms have been designed with a more muted palette, using raw textures and subtle tones to encourage rest and relaxation. Synonymous with the wider Locke brand, all studios will feature fully-equipped kitchens complete with high spec appliances, as well as custom-made green velvet sofas and living space.

9. Pan Pacific, London

Pan Pacific Hotels Group, has planted its first flag in Europe with Pan Pacific London. Offering the signature Pan Pacific gracious hospitality, with a touch of Asian resourcefulness, Pan Pacific London is scheduled to open in September 2021 just across from Liverpool Street Station, the historic and ever-evolving business district with little in the way of luxury hotels. The 237-room and suite hotel is located in One Bishopsgate Plaza, London’s new landmark tower, which combines this new hospitality offering with 160 private residences.

Under the vision of world-famous Yabu Pushelberg the property represents a number of firsts for London; including a floor dedicated to guest well-being incorporating a dramatic 18-meter infinity pool with spectacular view over the plaza; more landscaped outdoor space than any other luxury hotel in the area, with gardens integrated into the design of the restaurants and recreational facilities; and meeting and function spaces which will total almost 341sqm. A design marvel in itself is the entrance to the ballroom, occupying a glass pavilion in the public plaza, housing an elevator and lift to take guests down to the events space – the first ballroom in the square mile of 476 sqm, featuring two combinable areas suiting any type of event.

10. The Londoner, London

Edwardian Hotels’ The Londoner is London’s newest hotel, is due to open in 2021 in London’s Leicester Square. Launching as the world’s first Super Boutique hotel and in excess of £300m investment, the property will showcase a contemporary aesthetic crafted by Yabu Pushelberg across 16 stories including subterranean levels, making it one of the deepest hotels in the world, with 350 guest rooms and suites; two private screening rooms; a mix eof six concept eateries, bars, a tavern and a variety of meeting spaces and a results-driven gym and spa.

As a brand-new build in the heart of London, The Londoner will employ pioneering methods of sustainable luxury and secured a £175 million Green Loan from HSBC UK, a first for the hospitality sector. The funding will be used to ensure the new hotel doesn’t just meet but exceeds the BREEAM Excellent category in building environmental and sustainable performance.

11. WunderLocke, South-West Munich

Continuing its European expansion, home-meets-hotel brand Locke has opened WunderLocke in South-West Munich. WunderLocke aims to disrupt the Bavarian capital with a hospitality concept unlike any other in the city, and the first Locke of its kind. The new opening will feature 360 stylish studio apartments, co-working area, meeting and event spaces, workout studio and outdoor heated swimming pool; as well as four food and drink outlets including an urban farm that will supply a farm-to-table concept, and rooftop cocktail bar with panoramic views of the Bavarian Alps.

WunderLocke is  a destination for locals, holidaymakers, and business travellers alike, providing a new creative hub in South-West Munich for the city’s burgeoning undercurrent of artists, creatives and tech entrepreneurs. WunderLocke has been designed by acclaimed studio Holloway Li, which completed Locke’s latest London property, Bermonds Locke, earlier this year. The property’s design-led apartments are peaceful and spacious, and all feature kitchens and seating areas – a hallmark of Locke design. WunderLocke is also home to several suites, which include large dining tables to accommodate dinner parties and business meetings.


Previously a beachfront Balearic structure from the 1980s, W Ibiza Hotel sits off the beaten track and on the palm-fringed beachfront of Santa Eulalia – Ibiza’s largest resort. Baranowitz + Kronenberg (B+K) have transformed W Ibiza into an incredible social hub that connects with guests, sets the scene, and sparks imagination, while incorporating the bold and playful themes of W Hotels. The practice has set out to design a hotel to match the relaxed pace and cosmopolitan vibe of Santa Eulalia, resulting in an idyllic escape with the playful charm of Ibiza.

The bohemian theme which is synonymous with the island is handled with refined sophistication, amplified through the spatial arrangement and choice of materials and finishes. The overall impression is of a refreshing and engaging simplicity expressed by a minimum of means: colour, sun and shade.

Consisting of 162 guest rooms and suites, the hotel boasts a jaw-dropping rooftop swimming pool and picturesque sunset bar boasting spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea, as well as a 4e000 square foot spa and gym. This is one of the most exciting hotel openings in 2021.

13. Zentis Osaka

Zentis Osaka is a new hotel which is the creation of renowned interior specialist Tara Bernerd and marks the first property of a new hotel group under the Palace Hotel Group umbrella.

An entirely new build, the 16-storey property  features 212 guest-rooms with a contemporary feel that take inspiration from the intuitive functionality of bento boxes. The culinary direction of UP STAIRZ, the hotel’s dining venue, will be guided by the acclaimed head chef’s wealth of experience in France and Japan. The hotel will also feature a 24-hour fitness center. 14. The Hari Hong Kong

Building on the success of The Hari London, where the hotel brand first originated, Tara Bernerd & Partners is delighted to once again collaborate on the design for The Hari Hong Kong. Situated in the vibrant, up and coming area of Wan Chai, the hotel is set to be the new destination hotel for “those in the know”. Taking its cue from its owner, Dr. Aron Harilela, Chairman and CEO of Harilela Hotels, The Hari Hong Kong is a handsome hotel brand which seeks to inject modern luxury and social dynamism into the district.

As with all Tara Bernerd & Partners designs, locale is everything. Bridging the commercial pulse of Causeway Bay and the creative design scene of Wan Chai, the Practice has sought to contrast the commercial heritage of the neighbourhood with a contemporary forward-looking attitude. A polished palate is offset by mid-century furniture and striking artwork aimed at capturing the essence of entering into the chicest of Hong Kong homes.

15. Desa Potato Head, Bali

Following the successful 2020 opening of Potato Head Studios – Desa Potato Head’s 168 guest room hotel – the remainder of the complex will launch next year. This final element of Potato Head’s decade-spanning project has been uniquely designed in partnership with architect David Gianotten at OMA, the Dutch practice founded by Rem Koolhaas.

Desa Potato Head is the home to a farm-to-table restaurant, numerous bars, a multifunctional gallery, an environmentally driven kids club, several rooftop activation areas, an amphitheatre, a beachfront pool with daybeds, a music recording studio, a permanent home for dance music’s Wild Life Archive, and next door, a high-fidelity, subterranean discotheque designed in partnership with DJ Harvey. Conceived as a multidimensional experience which transcends hospitality, it’s a place where music, art, design, food, wellness and sustainability will collide, offering a new type of holistic experience for both the local community and guests alike.

The Desa Potato Head complex features furniture and amenities made from recycled plastics and planet-friendly materials conceptualised by celebrated British designers Max Lamb and Faye Toogood, whose work is brought to life by Balinese artisans using indigenous materials and techniques as well as Potato Head’s own Sustainism Lab, an R&D team dedicated to finding circular solutions.

16. Six Senses Shaharut, Israel

17. Six Senses Ibiza

Six Senses Ibiza will open in July 2021.Located on 25 acres of the northern tip of Ibiza’s Cala Xarraca Bay, Six Senses Ibiza will have 134 guest accommodations, including townhouses, pools suites and beach cave units, spa, a residential community and panoramic sunset views.

The Six Senses Spa homes single and couple’s remedy rooms, a steam room, hammam and health space, café and juice bar. The Rose Bar gives friends a variety of therapeutic and preventative longevity packages, combining diagnostics, biohacking, vitamin and sweetness remedies. Open air, there may be a formidable yoga deck and boxing ring on the roof.
