HOTEL OF THE WEEK: Teranka Formentera, Bookings Now Open

The 35-bedroom hotel offers three sophisticated dining experiences including Nobu Formentera, a Michelin-starred executive chef, a roof terrace, beach access, and a sculpture garden, making it unlike anything else on the island.

Opened on 1st August, Teranka is a new independent boutique hotel on the bohemian island of Formentera, offering an idyllic, island-hideaway experience in the Mediterranean.

Teranka – meaning a feeling of being connected to the earth and anchored in a location – aims to embody the essence of Formentera; a small, unique island in the Balearics accessed only by boat – that maintains a creative, laidback feel with a wealth of unspoilt natural beauty unseen elsewhere in the Spanish archipelago.

Teranka Formentera

Set amongst the pine trees, Teranka has a privileged beachfront position, overlooking the pristine turquoise waters the island is renowned for. Teranka has been built in harmony with its natural location, utilising local materials and expertise. Handmade, dry stone walls complement intricate plasterwork and carpentry that showcase unique, traditional Formentera techniques. It combines to create a sense of sophisticated simplicity in which guests can while away the sun-drenched days and balmy nights.

The vision for Teranka was to not only pay homage to the island and its environment, but also to the history of free spirits and artists that it has become known for. Teranka dedicates its walls and its sculpture park to contemporary art, sharing with guests, visitors and all art lovers, a private art collection, together with annual exhibitions and talks curated by the art lawyer and art historian Dalila Amor.

Mediterranean gardens surround the property and are dotted with sculptures and art designed to contrast and enhance the natural beauty of the grounds. Alongside a shaded yoga and meditation terrace, luxurious day beds can also be found amongst the gardens, offering guests an alternative to the hotel’s loungers on the sandy beach moments away.

Teranka is home to unrivalled culinary experiences on the island, providing a gastronomic destination; Vert Mer will serve an all-day menu from acclaimed Andalusian chef Juan Martín in a relaxed setting with sea views. Once the sun has set, Vert Mer will transform into a French fine dining experience from 3 Michelin starred chef Emmanuel Renaut, complete with a wine cellar.

Nobu Formentera is on the hotel’s rooftop offering another dining destination for the island. Guests can enjoy handcrafted nigiri, sushi, sashimi, and other classics that Nobu is internationally recognised for, accompanied by breathtaking views over the island and its azure waters.

With just 35 rooms, split amongst three low-level, reimagined buildings – Mar, Tierra, and Cielo – guests are invited to feel both at home and at one with the island. Alongside decorative, eclectic antiques, rooms are awash with natural light from full-height terrace doors, and beds are dressed in fine linens evocative of the earth and sea tones that surround the property.

Mar rooms (with a choice of 5 room types) surround the relaxing pool area and offer sea views from a slightly elevated island position, as well as private terraces.

Tierra rooms (with a choice of 2 room types) offer private terrace gardens amongst the pine trees, making this the ideal choice for nature lovers. The Isla de Formentera suite offers a luxurious terrace the length of the building, to soak in views from.

Cielo rooms (with a choice of 3 room types) are amongst the largest on the property, offering a separate living area, kitchenette and generous terraces. Ground floor rooms benefit from pine trees and garden views. The first floor offers ‘Mirador’ suites that come complete with secluded roof terraces, accessed by private staircases: Affording panoramic views over the countryside including La Mola, the highest and most Eastern point of the island, right across the Mediterranean to the Cap de Barberie and its lighthouse that signals the most southern point of the entire Balearics.

Elegant double rooms with private terrace or balcony start from £570 per night including breakfast. For further information and bookings, visit: www.Teranka.com or contact info@teranka.com
