How to find the perfect nude lipstick + our top picks
Finding the perfect nude lipstick can be a real challenge. A nude shade might look great on one skin tone and natural lip colour whilst looking too pink, too dark or too beige on another. So, what should we look for when we’re on the mission to find our perfect nude lippy? We reached out to the experts and this is what they had to say.
“When it comes to finding the perfect shade, there are a number of factors to take into consideration, says M·A·C National Education Manager Ocea McKenzie. If the nude lipstick will be the focus of your makeup look, “consider a nude that is generally two shades deeper than your skin tone and ensure that you have found a shade that won’t wash you out,” she explains. Texture is important, too. The texture of your lipstick will determine the opacity of your lip colour and affect the overall look and feel, explains McKenzie. “Matte textures will provide a bold, opaque full coverage, while sheer finishes are ideal for someone who is new to lipstick or wants a softer finish.”
We also reached out to Kheahni Jackson, Bobbi Brown’s Retail Education Manager who explains “When finding your perfect nude, try to find a shade that compliments the colour already represented in the lip. Holding two options up against your lip can help you see which might work best. Once you have found what you think is the right shade, apply it to the bottom lip and see if it compliments your bare top lip. If yes, you’ve found your perfect nude! If you like a nude to be brighter or deeper then stick with this tone but make it two shades darker or two shades lighter.”
