The top wellness vacations to take in Australia

The world has opened up again and there is no doubt that people are ready to travel, however, if you are starting to feel overwhelmed by the daily grind coming back into full force and you are not quite ready to make a long trip overseas, we are blessed to have a lot of options in Australia for those who want to unwind and relax.

Whether you are after relaxation, rejuvenation, a health and wellness retreat or some adventure there are so many options available right on our doorstep. Here are a few to consider.

Hotels that offer a twist of health

Whether you are travelling interstate for work or you just feel the need for a little staycation, one of Australia’s favourite boutique hotels have brought in a new fitness option for guests who want to stay on top of their fitness routine while also trying something unique.

Ovolo Hotels have recently partnered with Vitruvian, one of Australia’s most exciting fitness products to bring the weight room to the comfort of your hotel room. After winning an AFR award in 2022 and being named one of the best inventions of the year in Time Magazine, this humble Aussie brand is quickly taking the world by storm.

The Vitruvian Trainer+ is a state-of-the-art machine that allows you to lift up to 200kg without the need for a spotter. Using revolutionary AI technology, Vitruvian is a virtual personal trainer, adjusting the weight of each individual user in real-time. It also comes complete with an app that has hundreds of workouts and thousands of exercises to choose from.

The collaboration titled “Resist This Way”, which is a play on Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” brings the weight room to your hotel room, so anytime you stay at an Ovolo Hotel in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Canberra, you can book the machine to your room. Additionally, Ovolo Hotels thank their menus very seriously and they are known for the plant- led menus that source the best fresh local ingredients.

Yoga and meditation retreats:

For those who want to slow down completely, Australia has many beautiful locations for yoga and meditation retreats, including Byron Bay, Margaret River, and the Blue Mountains. These retreats offer a variety of yoga and meditation classes, as well as healthy meals and wellness workshops.

Spa and wellness resorts:

If you are after something a little more indulgent, Australia is home to many luxurious spa and wellness resorts, such as the Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat in Queensland and the Golden Door Health Retreat in New South Wales. These resorts offer a range of treatments, including massages, facials, and detox programs.

Eden Health Retreat is also a great one to consider if you want to sprinkle a little adventure into your getaway. In addition to having a spa, meditation and yoga, they also have a zipline and power pole jump to help you serve your adventure needs while you retreat.

Nature-based wellness experiences:

Australia’s natural beauty provides a perfect backdrop for wellness experiences, such as hiking, surfing, and bushwalking. The Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands are great destinations for snorkelling and scuba diving, while the Outback and the Blue Mountains offer scenic hikes and nature walks.

Additionally, a female-founded and focused paddle boarding school called SheSUPS hosts retreats around the world. The concept itself was started by Vicki Weston who teaches women how to paddle board and to build their confidence on the water. She largely used Red Paddle Co boards which are inflatable so those on the retreat can hike with them to hidden waterways and easily travel with them.

Mindfulness and stress-reduction programs:

Many wellness centres and retreats in Australia offer mindfulness and stress-reduction programs, which can include mindfulness meditation, breathing exercises, and workshops on stress management. One thing that is quite popular at the moment is also the Ice Bath movement with Wim Hoff workshops coming to Australia and the likes of Recovery Lab and some local fitness studios offering ice baths to help people recover and hack their immune system.

Overall, Australia has a lot to offer for those seeking wellness vacations, with a range of options to suit different needs and preferences. Whether you’re looking for relaxation, adventure, or a focus on health and fitness, you’re sure to find something right for you!
