Are you, or perhaps someone you know, in the early planning stages of an upcoming wedding celebration seeking inspiration for unique destinations? Look no further…

WedShed is an online platform that brings together unique Australian venues to hire for weddings – a bit like Airbnb. Offering anything from woolsheds and warehouses to wineries and aeroplane hangars these venues are for couples looking for the flexibility to create a celebration that says ‘this is us’

WedShed is all about people coming together to celebrate love and community – less bridezilla and more bridechilla. For Amy Parfett and Melany McBride, the co-founders of WedShed, it is about helping like-minded and loved-up people to find an awesome space to eat, drink and be merry with all the people that mean the most to them.

If you are looking for a unique wedding destination down under, without further ado, here are the most heavenly converted chapels in Australia.

Summergrove Estate | North Coast, NSW

Holy cuteness – this white mountain top chapel is the goods. Sitting pretty on 73 acres of green North Coast hinterland, it has views right out to the Pacific, as well as a surrounding olive grove and vineyard in which to celebrate your happiest day.

Cedar Bar & Kitchen | Mid North Coast, NSW

A 108-year-old church has been carefully restored to create one of the region’s most unique venues. Nestled in charming Bellingen, this space boasts original stained glass windows, seven metre high ceilings, large timber balconies and a food concept focused sharing locally-sourced produce with loved ones.

Byrchendale | Central Victoria, VIC

A naked outdoor chapel is just one of the things that set this venue apart. Tucked away in the Goulburn Valley Region just 90 minutes from Melbourne, you’ll also find fruit-laden orchards, a purpose-built barn, century-old gums and grazing dairy cows. You can also BYO your own alcohol and fur-baby (yes, it’s pet-friendly).

Churchill | Central Victoria, VIC

If a converted gothic church and whitewashed hall overlooking Victorian countryside sounds appealing, then read on. Churchill is an absolute jaw-dropper, with stained glass windows, high timber ceilings, a carved wooden pulpit and even a choir loft. There are also two acres of gardens to spill out onto, and a resident florist-owner who happens to be one of the industry’s most talented floral designers. Bonus.

Chapel on the Green | South-East QLD, QLD

A beautiful little chapel built in the 1870s to celebrate a silver wedding anniversary, this one is a real undiscovered gem. Located in the friendly Somerset region, it’s a white wooden building with exposed beams, surrounded by grassy level lawns. We’re picturing relaxed, intimate celebrations (and a serious croquet tournament).

st-josephs-guesthouse_cred-lara-hotz

St Josephs Guesthouse | Greater Sydney, NSW

The oldest Catholic Church on Australia’s mainland, this deconsecrated beauty has been transformed into the ultimate home-stay – and wedding venue. With accommodation for 10 guests, a plunge pool and sweeping views of the surrounding valley, it’s a one-of-a-kind spot just outside Sydney on the Hawkesbury River.

kantara-house_1_cred-kantara-house

Kantara House | Central Coast, NSW

Originally built in the 1960s, Kantara House’s beautiful white chapel fell into a sad state until one family purchased this property a few years ago and poured loads of love and effort into bringing it back to the former glory that you can see today. Just minutes away from Avoca Beach, it blends seaside vibes with tropical gardens and can host weddings of up to 300 guests.

scrub-hill-1869-front_-cred-scrub-hill-1869

Scrub Hill 1869 | Daylesford, VIC

Surrounded by lush rolling hills, this property boasts not one but several gorgeous historic spaces to celebrate the fact you’ve found your other half. Choose between the Bluestone Church (circa 1869), the Sunday School or the Himalayan tree lawn (just pop a marquee up). Or don’t choose – make the most of them all. It’s your day after all.
