Arty and stylish with a sprinkle of Moulin Rouge and Cirque du Soleil – QT Sydney, an edgy boutique hotel located in the city’s CBD offers a seductive experience for any curious and discerning traveller.
I recently spent the night at QT Sydney, a unique and colourful hotel located between two historical buildings; Gowings and The State Theatre on Market Street in the CBD.
The edgy hotel opened its doors back in September 2012 and takes great pride in being the only Sydney hotel to be a member of the exclusive Design Hotels. And rightly so, this edgy hotel is rather a unique find.
Described as ‘an eclectic mix of design, art, luxury, style and a touch of quirk’ the hotel does live up to the expectations offering a cutting-edge ambience which is both theatrical, entertaining and seductive.
With its prime location, 200 guest rooms, a 120 seat European-style brasserie and a late night cocktail bar as well as a luxurious day spa, QT Sydney ticks most boxes.
At check-in the front office staff are wearing quirky, avant-garde uniforms styled by costume designer Janet Hine creating a real WOW- factor. It’s actually hard to tell if you are greeted by members from Cirque du Solei escorting you to the evening performance or if you’re about to check-in to a hotel. This certainly adds to the excitment.
QT King Delux
The QT King Delux room comes with 24-hour room service, a comfortable King Bed, work space, bathroom with a shower and freestanding bath as well as a quirky ‘Willy-Wonka style’ mini-bar.
In this room, the party starts before you’ve even made it half-way through the hallway. A side table, draped with all the ingredients you need to shake up your own Espresso Martini, is on display just screaming to be used. Even as a non-Martini drinker, I’m tempted.
When entering the bedroom a strong scent of Coco Chanel’s iconic fragrance Chanel N°5 hits your nostrils only to remind you that although this is a real rock-n-roll hotel, there’s still plenty of class.
As expected the interior design doesn’t let the hotel’s quirkiness down. With a faux-fur spread across the bed, black designer plastic lamps and a colourful mat decorating the room, you’d almost expect Brian Ferry from Roxy Music pop up behind the armchair.
And entertainment is not something the hotel is short of. With an impressively large selection of great complimentary in-room movies, complimentary Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine and a mini-bar equipped to feed an army I had to come up with good reasons to leave the room.
Who is the hotel for?
Definitely couples! This is a playground for any couple looking for a seductive weekend away or even for Sydneysiders looking to treat their better half to a night in town. Enjoy a delicious dinner at Gowings Bar & Grill and a cocktail at the Guilt Lounge – the perfect mid-week treat.
