Restaurant Guide to Los Angeles for the modern eco-traveller

When you think of Los Angeles, most people think of Hollywood, celebrities, Rodeo Drive shopping, the beach, and the sunshine, but LA has some of the most creative culinary scenes in the world. The recent Eat + Drink Week in West Hollywood is a testament to the city’s love for food. While LA natives have a love for In-N-Out burger, there’s a true passion for eco-conscious food. The restaurants in Los Angeles are diverse and internationally influenced yet draw from local influences and procurement. Global flavours with sustainable practices make it the perfect scene for the modern eco-traveller.

Here are three of our Los Angeles restaurant picks;

Urth Caffe

Los Angeles – Urth Caffé

“An LA Breakfast & Lunch Staple”

If you have ever been to LA, chances are you have heard of or been to Urth Caffé. Branded as “exclusively organic coffees and fine teas,” Urth has a wholesome and earthy vibe. Their coffee is organically grown, heirloom, sustainable, shade-grown, directly traded and of the highest quality. As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is inviting and homey. The queue is a guarantee, but the service and staff are surprisingly quick and efficient.

Breakfast & lunch staples like granola bowls, omelettes, tuna sandwiches, and quesadillas ground the menu while unique dishes such as butternut squash & ricotta pizza, nori plum rice wraps, prosciutto & cheese breakfast paninis, and sausage & potato omelettes add a twist. With four locations throughout LA (and an additional five outside), Urth is a must-visit.

Laurel Hardware

Laurel Hardware

“More than meets the eye”

As the name would suggest, this restaurant embodies the “don’t judge a book by its cover” expression. From the outside, it looks like a typical hardware store but from the inside, you are greeted with speakeasy-esqe vibes inside. The outdoor patio area is lit up with lights woven into the tree branches, creating an intimate atmosphere.

Like the design of the restaurant, the food does not disappoint. The menu is an incredibly diverse menu with classic American, Italian, Asian, and local influences. Additionally, produce is organic & local, protein is hormone-free & free-range, and there is a range of gluten & vegetarian-friendly dishes. Everyone can find something to satisfy their taste buds.

Known for the open kitchen and rooftop views of Los Angeles & the Hollywood hills, guests can enjoy Asian-inspired seafood and sushi with curated cocktails from day to late-night.

Keeping with the fresh food trend, CATCH LA incorporates local and sustainable ingredients as much as possible, offering vegan and gluten-free options as well. The restaurant itself is also noteworthy, decorated with beautiful floral arrangements and lights throughout the restaurant.
