Bvlgari Resort Bali: a slice of a romantic tropical paradise and high-end Italian sophistication.

Entering Bvlgari Resort feels like entering the Garden of Eden. The cab driver jokingly refers to the luxury resort as ‘paradise on earth’ and I couldn’t agree more. With lush colourful tropical gardens, exotic birds, monkeys and luxury private villas facing the clear blue Indian Ocean, a stay at Bvlgari Resort in Bali is every romantic traveller’s ultimate dream.

Bvlgari Resort Bali’s Location

Bvlgari Resort Bali (which is part of the famous jewellry brand’s six exclusive hotels) is located just outside Uluwatu on the Bukit peninsula which was once the hunting grounds of the Balinese royal families, but today home to some of the island’s most exclusive villas and resorts. Situated on a cascading lush hillside 492 feet above sea level, the resort on its secluded plateau is one of the most exclusive destinations on Bali surrounded by dramatic cliffs and small village roads. The breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean is particularly spectacular during sunrise and sunset (yes you get both).

The Upscale Village-Feel

The unique cliff-side spot combined with the exotic gardens lends itself perfectly for a tropical resort and Bvlgari has managed to capture the beauty of the location and cleverly adding Italian elements to the property. Only one material and one single colour have been used for the resort’s fittings, floors, and details which is the bangkiray, a type of mahogany wood from Java which creates a warm and harmonious feel.

The resort facilities are spread out across the grounds and can easily be accessed either by foot (it’s a bit hilly) or by a buggy. Impressively, and what makes Bvlgari Resort so special, all villas, spa, restaurants, pool area, and the bar all benefits from a 180-degree ocean view. The main infinity pool area (popular at sunset for photos) with its sunbeds and cabanas is the perfect spot for a lazy day in the sun. For guests fancy a tipple, Il Bar next door is serving delicious cocktails as well as afternoon tea. The daily a la carte and buffet breakfast is served in the Sangkar Restaurant. Any sleepy breakfast guests will certainly wake up from the magnificent view from the outdoor seating area which is positioned at the end of a cliff. The view together with the fluffy pancakes with pistachio and maple syrup, a green cold-pressed juice, and a fruit salad, couldn’t be a better start to your day.

To access the beach, a steep train is operating throughout the day. A morning or evening walk along the beach is absolutely wonderful and there’s a dedicated area for sunbathing with sunbeds, umbrellas and a restaurant. Swimming, however, can be dangerous due to the sharp rocks and heavy waves.

The Bvlgari Villas

The Villas And Mansions

The resort is made up of 59 villas and five mansions all with ocean views that have been perfectly integrated with the environment. The villas come in four different categories ranging from 300 to 1,300 sqm. The Ocean Villa is incredibly spacious with both indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor seating area is covered and leads out to the wooden terrace with sun lounges and the private plunge pool surrounded by tropical greenery. The view overlooking the Indian Ocean is breathtaking and can best be enjoyed from the plunge pool where the azure blue water is peaking through the pink bougainvilleas and green banana leaves. All villas provide total privacy and there’s no insight to surrounding villas which creates a feeling of being the only guests at the resort. The indoor area is divided into a spacious double bedroom and an even more spacious bathroom where the Italian influence is particularly striking. There’s a large bathtub in the middle of the room, double sinks, a large rain shower as well as an outdoor shower. The amenities are all from Bvlgari including a lovely body lotion. The rich mahogany woods used and traditional fabrics and furniture create a warm and calming environment that perfectly blends the Balinese style with the Italian. The outdoor sofa is a wonderful spot to put your feet up and enjoy a Nespresso coffee after a long day of soaking up the sun and if you’re lucky you might encounter some of the local residents – the monkeys.

The Bvlgari Spa

The Cliff-Top Spa

The cliff-top spa reception is located in an over 200-year old hand-carved teak wood Joglo House transported from Java. It’s the gateway to the six treatment rooms, outdoor gardens and the pavilion overlooking the ocean. The treatments are a mix of Balinese, Asian and European wellness therapies. For the facial treatments products from the French brand Biologique Recherche are used. The 60-min ‘after-sun’ facial is fantastic to soothe the skin and add hydration. The traditional massage is a ‘freestyle’ massage using Balinese techniques and body oil of preference. It’s great for any muscle tension and for complete relaxation. After treatments guests are welcome to recover and enjoy ginger tea on the sun lounges in the pavilion overlooking the ocean. There’s also a hammock to stretch out on and plenty of cucumber water to hydrate.

Bulgari Hotel Bali

Il Restaurante Luca Fantin

For a special dinner experience, Bvlgari’s Italian Il Restaurante Luca Fantin is an elegant fine dining space that seamlessly transports you to Italy. Decorated in black and white the 36-seat restaurant celebrates the classic Italian cuisine helmed by Chef Fabrizio Crocetta who has over six years experience cooking at various Michelin-starred restaurants around Italy and Asia. The burrata served with vegetables carpaccio and grilled tomato is fantastic and so is the black truffle and mushroom risotto carnaroli. One of the popular dishes is the wagyu beef from Australia (sometimes from Japan) served with a flavoursome jus paired with a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from 2016 which is one of the restaurant’s 200 wine labels. For dessert the coffee meringue with mascarpone and chocolate is superb!

Who is Bvlgari Resort Bali for?

Given the property’s spectacular (also relatively remote) location Bvlgari Resort suits couples and families looking for a relaxing high-end tropical break away from all the hustle and bustle. The private villas are perfect for a romantic getaway (honeymooners rejoice!) or for family reunions, special occasions, and celebrations. The resort has everything you need from gym, restaurants, cafes, pools, and spa so there’s no need to venture out from the tropical paradise until its, sadly, time to check out.
