Indian Accent in New Dehli fuses nostalgic, traditional Indian tastes with modern and unusual global ingredients.

The result is an explorative dining experience where the familiar is woven into new and exotic flavours. The restaurant is located within The Lodhi Hotel, a distinctively iconic Delhi emblem of luxury and calm.

Contemporary in its design and layout, Indian Accent meanders around an outdoor decorative pool, lending the interior a sense of space and tranquillity that is hard to find in Delhi.

The Meal

The six-course Chef’s tasting menu takes you on a culinary journey across all corners of India. With morels sourced from Kashmir in the North, to crab caught at the very Southern tip of Kanyakumari. Indian Accent unites the diverse flavours of this vast country in the tasting menu. Each dish is paired with a wine designed to complement or enhance the flavours.

An ingenious blue cheese filled naan nearly stole the show as an appetiser before a Carpenè Malvolti Prosecco di Conegliano started the evening off with an effervescent flourish. Paired with ash-roasted sweet potato, white pea mash and strawberry, the dry citrus tones of the Prosecco shone through and contrasted well with the strawberry sweetness.

The roast chicken with sarson saag and masala feta was, like all the dishes, beautifully presented.  The sarson saag was rich, deeply flavoursome and went well with the feta. Pork ribs were delightfully sticky with sun-dried mango pickle and crunchy mango puffs adorned on the top. A  singular Kashmiri morel held it’s own, being densely earthy, woody and partnered with a chilli lotus root and walnut.

A palate cleanser of pomegranate sorbet provided the needed uplift ahead of the baked fish. The fish arrived with a sweet corn kadhi from the Gujarati region and mathri crumbs which originate in the North of India, a flaked biscuit that gave texture and crunch to the fish. The Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand, gave a floral, fruity lime accent to the dish.

Desert was a trio of traditional Indian sweets, from a black dairy dal to frozen raita. All paired with a sweet late harvest Chenin Blanc by Sula Vineyards in India. As India’s first ever late harvest Chenin Blanc it was alive with the aromas of mango, honey and partnered seamlessly with the deserts.

The Chefs

The menu was created by Chef Manish Mehrotra, a culinary conjurer who is passionate about integrating fresh, seasonal local produce with unusual ingredients from far and wide across the globe. With the aim to excite the adventurous, satisfy the traditional taste palate and evoke nostalgia, Chef Manish Mehrotra has created a tasting menu that will redefine how you see and taste Indian food.

Who comes here

The restaurant is ideal for special occasions, romantic dinners or quiet and intimate business lunches. Children are allowed from the age of ten years old onwards. With attentive, knowledgeable staff, each dish is explained with detail. Indian Accent is for anyone who is looking to reawaken their love of Indian food by trying explorative dishes that retain their traditional essence and roots.

Conclusion

Indian Accent has managed to elegantly blend invention and tradition. Coming here is an experience where you are able to open your mind to the creativity and passion of global dining.
